Granville FJ De Villiers is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Microstone Mining (Pty) Ltd, a Zimbabwean-registered and licensed mining company with concessions to extract Gold, Tantalite, Lithium, and other rare earth minerals critical to the global energy transition.

Under De Villiers' leadership, Microstone Mining has grown from a single mining concession into one of Zimbabwe's leading mining operations, employing nearly 300 skilled workers across its operations. The company represents a significant contribution to Zimbabwe's position as a key player in African mineral resources.

Beyond Zimbabwe, De Villiers maintains strategic business interests spanning six nations: Sierra Leone, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia, Belgium, and South Africa — positioning him as a significant figure in African resource development.

Early Years

Growing up in Hanover Park on the Cape Flats — one of South Africa's most challenging townships — De Villiers faced constant pressure to join gangs for protection. Instead, he chose education and excellence, becoming a standout athlete with provincial colours in soccer, cricket, and rugby.

Crystal High School Headboy

Elected as Headboy of Crystal High School in Hanover Park, De Villiers was publicly recognized for his exceptional leadership in both academics and athletics — setting the trajectory for a lifetime of leadership.

Legal Career

First Advocate from Hanover Park

Despite significant financial hardship, De Villiers completed his B. Iuris and LLB degrees in minimum time, earning admission as an Advocate of the High Court — becoming the first person from Hanover Park to achieve this distinction.

Strategic roles at mines across West and East Africa provided De Villiers with comprehensive industry expertise, preparing him for his transition to Zimbabwe's mineral-rich opportunities.

In 2019, never forgetting his roots in Hanover Park, De Villiers established the Granville De Villiers Foundation — a non-profit organisation dedicated to uplifting and empowering previously disadvantaged communities across Southern Africa.

Microstone Mining serves as the primary financial vehicle for the Foundation's initiatives, channeling mining revenues into sustainable community development, educational opportunities, and economic empowerment programs.
